You “SEO” guy talked about meta keywords….and I know he was saying how that some companies just “throw” them up and think that’s SEO.

Well if he was a good SEO, he would have said “Google doesn’t even look at meta keywords any longer”…..as of Fall, 2009.

    Directly from Google’s Blog:

SEO is process that has a lot of little intricacies. It’s all about finding the write keywords and using them in good, fresh content. There’s are not black hat secrets…it’s all out there in the interwebs. It’s just taking the time to do a nice job at it and tracking it.

    Kevin,

You are quite correct that Google doesn’t look at meta keywords any longer. The point I was trying to make is that there are still a lot of companies out there pushing key words and a lot of other nonsense.

You are also correct in saying that there are a lot of intricacies in improving any given site’s search rankings, a large majority of which aren’t even on-page SEO.

Page titles, back links, in-site linking, blogs, Twitter, forums, video, and many other social media all play a role in improving search results, some more than others. But as you mentioned, it’s quality content that helps tie all of this together. And search won’t mean much if conversion doesn’t take place once a visitor reaches a site. But that’s for another discussion.

That being said, I’ll leave it to Shama and others who know and work with me to determine whether or not I’m good. The Moscow Business School seemed to think I was worth flying half way across the world to teach an internet marketing program, of which SEO is a part. But I guess I can’t please everyone.
