How to Prevent Online Piracy

Transcript of the How to Prevent Online Piracy Video

Hey guys welcome to Shama.TV. As you know, I welcome your questions and whenever I can I answer them on air. So this question is “How do you ensure safety if you’re selling Ebooks?” So here’s the really sad news: there’s really no way to ensure safety 100% any time you do something online. People seem to think “Well, there’s gotta be software out there! Maybe I can password protect my PDF.” And certainly, you can always do those things, but to me the hassle always outweighs the benefits of protecting something like that. Now does piracy happen? Yes, but how far you need to go to prevent piracy is really debatable. I think just a copyright notice on the cover of your work can go a long way to notifying people. Now, of course there are always going to be unethical people who steal your work anyway, but their impact is surprisingly miniscule. So there’s my opinion on Ebooks. Yes, some people are going to steal it, but oh well. Do what you can to get to the point where you feel comfortable, but really focus on building that book and getting it out there, rather than worrying about who is going to take the book. And if you guys have any comments I’d be happy to hear them and see what your suggestions are!

    Hello Shama,

I will like to answer to your Online Privacy section, regarding PDF, you can benchmark those ebook’s, doesn’t necessarily even require a cover letter to do that, and yet there are several types of benchmark’s available, some noticeable some not. Different techniques are available online as to how to do it accordingly. I had taken such course as Image processing therefore I know about such techniques in details, but apparently many wouldn’t want to go in such deep mathematical details but rather just implement it.

Shama, I know this has been a worry for me, as I have developed an online book on time management. I wanted a solution that would prevent the book from being opened if the copy had not been purchased. I have not a good solution that allows me to host the book on my website.
