Book Review: Social Media Marketing by Dave Evans and Jake McKee

Transcript of the Book Review: Social Media Marketing by Dave Evans and Jake McKee Video

Hey guys! Welcome to Shama.tv.

It is book review time here at book corner. And we have guest host Snoopy joining us today, as you know, he likes to make guest appearances once in a while.

The book I’m reviewing today is called “Social Media Marketing” by Dave Evans with Jake McKee, both who I know. Don’t let the size fool you ‘coz it is a thick book, it is still a pretty easy, breezy read. What I really liked about this book is that Dave talks about something, which I think is so important and often overlooked, is that social media. And being a social business or really interacting and engaging with audiences is not really a marketing operation anymore. It’s not limited to just marketing, it has to be inherited everything that you do.

So, I love that he talks about how to create a presence, how to act on the feedback that you get from clients, that you get from people as they engaged with your content, and it talks about different ways to measure that. This is a great book, lots of charts, which I’m a visual person, I appreciate. And I’d really like the fact that he list a lot of different resources in here, different websites where you can get more information. And you know what, social media, one of the issues always is how current is the information. And I can honestly tell you that when I read through this and the principles that are in here these are constant principles. These are things that are not going to be changing any time soon, they’re very solid principles. And then, Dave refers you out to a lot of different websites that you can also keep up with for the on -going part. But I absolutely love it. I mean, it gives you a very analytical, logical sense of social media.

This is really not, I wouldn’t say it’s a beginners’ guide. I think as a beginner, you may be overwhelmed if you never set up a Facebook profile. This book is not for you. But if you are interested in social media marketing, if you do social media marketing for your company or client, this is a definite buy. And if you are a business owner, absolutely, even if you’re job title does not have marketing and it more the reason to get this book. And to really understand what social media is about and how you engage people in today’s world.

One of the things that I really like in this book is also, where Dave talks about creating information. And something that I’ve talked about recently which is how important it is not just to create content but if you can shift to that content for your audience and gave them the best of, that’s really, really important. Giving some signal to your audience when they’re so overwhelmed with all this noise. And I love that!

So some great principles in here, must read. Even if you have Dave’s first book which is “Social Media Marketing: An Hour a Day, this is called “Social Media Marketing: The Next Generation of Business Engagement”. This book really builds on the first one, and actually I like it even better.

Thanks for the great review and the kind words! Dave and I worked out tails off to make sure that readers said all the things you said :)

You’re right, this isn’t really meant to be the newbies guide. That was our first book together, and first book in the series: Social Media Marketing in an Hour a Day.

    Thanks again!
