Transcript of the Book Review and Giveaway: Rubies in the Orchard by Lynda Resnick Video
Hey guys, welcome to Shama.tv. It is book review and giveaway time once again here, and I’m excited. This is a really good book. I’m talking about “Rubies in the Orchard” by Lynda Resnick. Here it is. My good friend, Elizabeth Marshall, who does author teleseminars at authorteleseminars.com actually works with a lot of these authors to do their teleseminars and promote their books, and she gave me a copy of this.
And I’ve got to tell you, I love Lynda’s story because she is really the turnaround queen. You know, her and her husband have taken products like PomWonderful, Fiji Water, Teleflora, the Franklin Mint Company and just turned them around. So they’ve bought these businesses, built them, turned them around and in this book, Lynda talks about brand-building and the things that she’s learned in her life about marketing, and it’s a great read. I finished it in one sitting. I absolutely recommend it.
And so here’s what we’re going to do. Here’s where the contest part comes in. I want you to tell me your turnaround story. Tell me about a time that you took a product or a service or your marketing, whatever it was, a business overall, and turned it around. And it can be a short story, a long story, however big you want to do it. Leave it in the Comments section and we will pick the best turnaround story and send them this book, a copy of this: “Rubies in the Orchard,” by Lynda Resnick. Again, great read, and I hope you guys enter, and I hope one of you wins!
Dear Shama,
Thank you for your passionate review of my book. I would love to hear your best turn around story and perhaps I will also interview the company and put the interview on my website. I am always looking for companies that are doing well in spite of the recession.
Best wishes, Lynda
I took an Executive Director’s position with a fledgling nonprofit in January of 2004. The previous director had been half-heartedly working for most of the first year of incorporation. I was able to begin building the nonprofit slowly, bringing it into compliance with federal regulations and national organization standards. Additionally, I kept it operational without interruption despite Hurricane Katrina’s floodwaters and devestation. CASA Mississippi continues to grow and build capacity each year.
Hi Lynda,
My pleasure. Your story is amazing. I love the time you bought Jackie O’s pearls. I wish I could order those.
You are such a bombshell business woman. Hats off to you!
Hi Laurie,
That’s very impressive! Thanks for entering. : )
In Nov 2000 I purchased an insurance agency with a long and noble history. The agency was originally founded in 1925 and served the community well, but like many businesses it failed to adjust to the changing times. When I bought the agency it was losing ten’s of thousands a month, it was shrinking and it’s viability was in question. Within 11 months through an effective business plan, marketing and reorganization we turned red into black, and have tripled in size. What was once a paper intensive office with really little technology, has become a profitable business with cutting edge processes and technology. We constantly work to reinvent ourselves; we listen; we watch; and we postion ourselves to take advantage of the changing landscape. Differentiation is what separates us from the competition.
Our company re-positioned a 360-acre development with multi-million dollar homes, but with no golf, tennis or clubhouse, into “The Sanctuary at Lake Butler Sound” by adding parks, viewing docks and selling plants, birds, and fish instead of buildings. After about 2 years, the company sold over a billion dollars worth of real estate:
